Dear Vicky: 1984
A Street Shot from Hong Kong
If you follow news out of Hong Kong at all, you probably know the city is not in a good shape. Since Occupy Central ended in 2014, Hong Kong’s autonomy has been chipped away bit by bit. In 2019, to please the overlord, Hong Kong proposed an extradition pact with the PRC. Another months-long protest broke out. Then the pandemic hit. Hong Kong is but a shell of its former self.
All the above has almost nothing to do with today’s photo. Maybe a little.
Today’s Hong Kong reminds me of George Orwell’s 1984. It’s almost a cliché now. But Hong Kong is clearly moulded into just another Chinese city, under the watchful eyes of Big Brother. It’s a long and unnecessary segue to today’s photo.
And that’s it for today. See you!

Well done. Big brother image...
