Dear Vicky: Fare Thee Well
My Last Roll in Hong Kong
It was late March 2023. We moved into a hotel for our last week in Hong Kong. There I loaded a roll of film to record some fragments of a few hectic days. Hong Kong is slipping away like sand, my camera a clenched fist. We spent most of our time in and around the hotel, and all of a sudden, we were tourists again in a city we’d known all too well. It was a strange feeling. The weather was quite fittingly moody, Vicky Harbour blanketed under thick fog. It made good photo opportunities, if you ask me.
Anyway, on with the photos.
The Star Ferry is by far my favourite means of transportation in Hong Kong, followed closely by the tram on Hong Kong Island. Both will be topics for future posts, I hope.
If you don’t get a halfsie out of a roll, have you really shot the roll?
This is it. After a whirlwind week of packing and saying goodbye to friends, on the morning of April Fool’s day, we hopped on a taxi for the airport, one way tickets in hands. That’s the end of our Hong Kong days, four weeks short of 11 years.

Star Ferry!!! The best ride ever. It was 60 HK cents when I lived there. It has nostalgia painted all over it! Thank you for the reminder!
Great stuff! Cool to see some color after a whirlwind of black and white. But also more black and white from you please. I’m with Hanz, halfsie toilet shot is ace.
