Dear Vicky: First Post of Winter on Kodacolor 100
Hello folks! I am checking in from Hong Kong once again. I hope you are all ready for the upcoming holidays.
Routine rambling before the real post. I lost my phone, in a cab when I went to pick up my folks. It was the second phone dear old Vicky had claimed from me. The first one was stolen during the dragon boat race on the dragon boat festival when I went in to the shower room for a quick rinse after my first heat. Someone must’ve followed me in, snatched my dry bag and bounced. Along with my phone, I also lost one of my favourite t shirts. This time, my phone was in a horrible state: the entire back panel had been shattered; wires and metal parts were showing. I really thought I had a chance of getting it back. I was wrong. I had to buy a new phone. It’s a pain in the ass.
Another thing I’ve been doing since I landed in Hong Kong is revisiting movies by Stephen Chow. It’s a lot of fun watching his movies from 30+ years ago when Hong Kong still made fun movies.
Today, I am gonna continue with my Dear Vicky rekindling project. This time on the newish Kodacolor 100. I haven’t really dug into the backstory of this stock. Some say it’s the repackaged Proimage; some say it’s not. I haven’t done a side by side comparison of the two, so I am not gonna pick a side. It’s not the point of this post or my substack anyway. Here are the photos.
Sometimes it helps to see Hong Kong with a little perspective.
I don’t know about this photo, but it’s busy.
Tramway, aka delivery fast track.
A crossing on Johnston.
Back alley.
Bamboo scaffolding will be a focus of mine for this trip. Who knows how long they are gonna be around.
Reflection.
Left turn.
Neon sign of a now defunct Cantonese Opera theatre.
Back alley overhead.
A fruit shop.
King’s Road at night.
Tram.
A shop front
A sliver of King’s Road.
A tired tram passenger.
That’s it for today. I will have a bit more free time to shoot around in the next week or two. Hopefully, I can bring something more interesting, or at least better thought out than these randos. Please excuse me for the randomness of these shots. Do check back. Thank you!

Wow, some bangers on this roll. I’m getting through a roll of this myself and this gets me excited for the results. I loved the opera house sign and the playing courts at the beginning. The way that sign sits so far off the building with so little support is wild. That must have been eye catching when it was still operational.
Happy holidays, Li Chen! I look forward to much more in 2026! Enjoy HK....
