Dear Vicky: Happy Holidays from Hong Kong
Happy holidays, y’all! Whatever you celebrate, I hope you are enjoying this holiday season with family and friends.
Substacking has taken a back seat for me in the last week or two. My parents were in town to see their grandson, not me, nor my wife, but their grandson. They were very specific about that, which, … cool.
I am happy that they seemed to have had a great time with George, which was one of the main reasons we came back to Hong Kong. This was only their third time to see George, almost three years since last time. I printed a bunch of photos of George as a gift, and they loved it.
Between baby duty and my parents’ visit, I didn’t have much time to my own. All I’ve got in the past week, photo wise, were some snapshots when we went out together. Here are some of the photos.
Kitchen of our temporary home. It’s not even 2 square meters in size. There’s a 2-head induction cooking top, a sink with a removable cover in case you need any space for your cutting board, etc, and a microwave. I shot this photo with my back against the wall. There’s just enough room for one person to stand in the kitchen.
Windows and AC unit of a hostel shot from an overpass. I could easily close the windows from the overpass.
Sunshine on bamboo scaffolding.
Reflection of residential buildings.
Restaurant menu reflected in rear view mirror of a truck and road workers.
A small bamboo scaffolding in a back alley.
View from an overpass. I kinda like how busy this photo is. Cars going up hill, scaffolder up on a wall, a dog crossing the road, etc.
Solstice light is one of my things to shoot. This is the only shot I managed to get on winter solstice this year. We went out a bit too late that day, and all lights were pretty much gone.
A fruit vendor.
Looking up.
A small pocket of light.
Billboards and people.
It’s a jungle out there.
Shapes and stuff.
Tram shot.
Billboard and building.
Night crawlers.
Failed experimental shot.
Failed experimental shot II.
Lone lady in MTR station on the evening of Christmas.
That’s it for today! Enjoy your holidays!

Such an interesting city. Thanks for sharing it from your perspective!
Chen, you should print a book of your Hong Kong photos. I would definitely buy a copy or two--as I'm sure some of your other subscribers would as well. K
