Dear Vicky: Tai O Village
It’s Been A While
It’s been a while since I posted about Hong Kong, and this situation needs to be rectified. Hong Kong is a little more than what the photo below shows.
Beyond the skyscrapers and the city hustle, there’s the old Hong Kong. Tai O village is one of those old Hong Kong remnants that’s still kicking. It’s an old fishing village mostly built on waters. As Hong Kong’s economy took off, many youngsters left their home village to pursue city glamours, leaving the elders holding court. It’s since become touristy. Nostalgia sells. The village pretty much stays the same way, at least visually. Here are some photos I took of the village just before I left Hong Kong.
If you take a hike from Tung Chung city centre around the airport to Tai O, this is one of the first scenes you’d see of the village.
That’s today’s post. Thanks for reading.

Absolutely love all of these! Thanks.
Wonderful photos!
I love Tai O. Haven't visited since during the pandemic, when it was so quiet! The absence of loads of tourists (excluding myself haha!) was incredible.
