Dear Vicky: The Man with But One Job
It’s about Hong Kong, alright?
Since moving to Europe, one of the things I miss the most about Hong Kong is the street market. I do not like the term wet market, it’s made to sound dirty, gross, and prone to outbreaks of diseases. The term has become more loaded since COVID-19. But as far as I know, there’s no large scale outbreaks of any disease that traced back to Hong Kong’s street markets.
The market I’ve been to the most, is the Smithfield market in Kennedy Town on the west end of the Hong Kong island. I lived in Kennedy Town for six years, and got my foodstuffs mostly from that market.
There was this guy at one of the fish stalls, who caught my attention. He has one job. Customer buys fish, his colleague throws the fish to him(yes, throws,) he kills the fish, guts it, and descales it. Please don’t PETA me. It’s the wrong party. That’s all he does. So whenever I have my camera on me when I visited the market, I would snap a photo of him. Here’s three of them. I’m pretty sure I have more.
If and when I go back to Hong Kong, I’d like to pay the man another visit. I am sure he’s still doing that one thing and that’s all I need to know.
Till next time!

I love it! It's interesting to look at them and see the minor differences in the details between them from day to day. Definitely hope you get back soon to take more of him.
