Dear Vicky: Yau Ma Tei at Night
Yau Ma Tei. I don’t have much to say. It is not as glamorous as its neighbour Tsim Sha Tsui, nor is it as (in)famous as its other neighbour Mong Kok. But it has its own offerings. The Kubrick bookstore, one of the best independent bookstores in Hong Kong. And the wholesale fruit market that only opens at night is certainly an interesting place.
Days before I left Hong Kong, I met two former colleagues there for dinner. Afterwards, I wandered around and took a few photos. The film in my camera was Kosmo Foto’s Agent Shadow, which I thought was a fitting tribute to the area. I like the photos more for the emotional values than the quality. Here’s a few of them.
Literal translation of the name of the night club is Heaven on Earth. The reflection in the van window says Trolley Noodle, a traditional local noodle type that, in the olden days trolleyed out and about to sell to labourers.
If you don’t know about Temple Street, well, you should. It is the set for many of Hong Kong’s mafia movies.
That’s it for today! Thanks! See ya!

Nice. Thanks.
