Dear Vicky: You Crazy Diamond
My first Pink Floyd reference!
Here’s a Vicky photo:
I found a photo I shot during the pandemic that brought back a lot of nostalgia. Here’s the photo:
The photo was shot on Ektar 100, a film stock I really like, but cannot afford anymore. There’s nothing to write home about this photo. But it’s so quintessentially Hong Kong that I think it deserves a post. This real estate agency is in Prince Edward-again, the Brits’ way of naming things and places- in the middle of the Kowloon Peninsula. Look at the prices and the sizes of these apartments. For example, top row, second from the left: a 237-square-foot, two-bedroom-one-living-room apartment for HK$3.98 million, or a little over US $500,000. And Prince Edward is not an expensive neighbourhood, not by a long shot. The photo both makes me miss Hong Kong and reminds me why I couldn’t afford to live there.
But shine on, you crazy diamond!
That’s it for today. Come back soon!
