Dublin on Ektar
Hello! Hello! Hello!
Thank you for coming back. Before I get to today’s photos, here’s something that’s been on my mind this week.
If you read my last post, or you’ve been following the news in the last few days, you must know about the terrible fire in Hong Kong’s Tai Po. As I am typing, it has claimed 128 lives. It is a man-made tragedy that is avoidable, and yet it happened. The buildings had been under renovation since mid-2024, but we only found out after the fire, that the contractors had used highly inflammable styrofoam in the building and the green mesh used to cover the scaffolding had poor fire retardancy, both of which were illegal. Then all it took was a careless construction worker who smoked at the site. Corruption, corner-cutting, and carelessness, it was the perfect storm. Beyond the terrifying numbers, was each individual and family victimised by this fire, and had their lives ruined. A man was on his way home when he saw his building on fire. In a panic, he called his wife to tell her to get out of the building. They stayed on the phone while his wife made her way down the stairs, but the fire had spread and cut off her way. She decided to go back to their apartment and hope maybe she could wait out the fire. That was when their phone call was cut off. A fireman who was to get married next month died. The sad stories kept coming. I am not sure where I am going with this part, but I feel sad for the city I love dearly. Thanks for going through this part with me. If you are a licensed psychologist, you are welcome to bill me for this. That’s the end of my therapy session.
Today’s actual post is about Ektar 100, a stock I don’t shoot much. One of the reasons is, of course, the price. As things stand, it costs about 1 euro more than Portra 160. It’s hard to justify the price tag. I bought this roll years ago back in Hong Kong, so the price wasn’t bad. I do like the film. It’d be great if it’s cheaper, which applies to almost everything, I guess. Here’s some photos I shot around Dublin.
A touch of sunshine.
Reflection.
Skateboarders and a church.
A car, not a toy car, I guarantee you.
This is a busy one.
The fleet of one.
A wall, some ivy, lights and shadows.
Cloud in the window.
The Ha’penny Bridge.
Sunset.
Driver shot, at a red light.
A sliver of light.
There it is! Thanks for coming along with me while I ramble about the fire. Have a good weekend! I’ll see you next week!

Truly heartbreaking…. (Loving the colors in your shots.)
Your 'rambling' is quite understandable, it's a disaster what happened there. Those Ektar photos have wonderful colors! The sunset, Fleet, skateboarders and ivy photos are definitely in your 'idiom', but with rich colors. I like your color work.
