Happy Lunar New Year with Some Photos from the Czech Republic
Happy Lunar New Year to whoever celebrates! Nationalist netizens in China are waging a war against anyone who doesn’t use the English term “Chinese New Year.” The stupidity and snowflakeness is beyond me. The real name normal people use is the Spring Festival, or 春節 in Chinese. These people….
In 2019, I visited the Czech Republic. I had a short stay in Cesky Krumlov and on to Prague. It was a fun trip. The air bnb my wife and I shared with a friend had hosted the Dalai Lama two days before our arrival. I think that fact made the whole trip sound cool. We hired a car to drive us to Prague, and on the way, the driver pointed at a structure and said: “Chernobyl.” It scared the bejesus out of me. The driver didn’t speak much English and he meant nuclear power plant. Had he said Springfield or Homer Simpson, it would’ve been less scary.
Anyway, on to the photos. Here’s a few in colour:
It was around this trip that I learnt the famous Cesky cartoon the Little Mole was only popular in the Communist Bloc. None of my friends from the western bloc had seen it. It was very popular in China back in the day. You can see the little mole in the bottom centre
If memory serves me right, the exhibition featured photos from the Associated Press. Kudos to the Czechs for putting on this exhibition in a city popular with Chinese tourists. I’ve heard some discussions among surprised and confused tourists. The AP has been in the news lately about the authorship of the famous Napalm Girl photo. It’s a shocker.
Anyway, that’s it for today. Wish you all a happy and healthy year of the snake!

Happy Lunar New Year🧧! I loved your story, as it brought back memories to when I'd watch Little Mole as a kid (I grew up in the Czech Republic, but moved out when I was 19). Great photos!
