Happy New Year and a quick photo dump
It’s 20:37 GMT on New Year’s Eve. To all my friends in the Asia Pacific region, happy New Year! No spoilers, please! To everyone still in 2024, be patient and prepared because it seems 2025 will be another bumpy ride. What’s the rush?
Now that the well wishing is out of the way, if you are here solely for that, go back to enjoy your parties. To all else, I say: “Why? It’s New Year’s Eve, and you know there’s nothing interesting here.”
I will occasionally do a photo dump here. It could be a few photos from a roll of film I recently got back, or photos from the same film stock, or, dare I say, photos of a certain theme. I know! Pretentious, right? All critiques are welcome. But don’t just say: “You suck!” Please include something that I don’t already know.
Here’s a roll of Ilford HP5 Plus I got back around Christmas. I love the HP5 because it’s cheaper than its competitors from that other brand; it’s versatile; when pushed two stops to ISO 1600, it’s very contrasty, and perfect for Ireland’s grey and dark winter days. The sun sets at 4pm, for cry out loud. The roll was shot mainly in November and early December. I experimented quite a bit with the roll. It’s just a fancy way of saying I fucked around and found out. The results? Meh…

That’s the end of the dump. I was trying to do some Saul Leiter, but clearly, it didn’t quite pan out. I will try some colour stock and see how it goes. The roll was pushed two stops to 1600. Did I mention developing and scanning film is a drag and a half in Dublin? Maybe I’ll build my own darkroom. That’s a project for later.
If you are still with me, I am sorry. Not just because these photos are not worth your time, but also because, like me, you have nothing better to do on New Year’s Eve.
Happy New Year! I am SORRY! Come back tomorrow for more?
Subscribe, please! It’s New Year’s Eve! The perfect time to sign up for things you don’t need and will regret in a week. Why not?
