Hello, everyone!
I hope your week has gone better than that of the England football team. Oooops! I don’t think I’ve seen a more spectacular self-inflicted collapse in football, ever.
Today, the wife took a day off and wanted to go for a hike. And we did. We jumped in the car and drove to Glendalough in the Wicklow Forest National Park. It is a bliss driving outside Dublin, the city of gridlocks. I read somewhere that in 2025, the average speed of the city was just above 13 km/h. The entire city, the whole 2025. Anyway, just over an hour later, we were in the mountains of Wicklow. Glendalough means the valley(Glen) between two(da) lakes(lough.) The area has, as you might expect, two lakes formed by melting glaciers at the end of the last ice age around 9000 years ago. If you spot any inaccuracies, please excuse me. After checking out the visitors’ area, which was just the car park, we went up to the trail head and started walking. Here’s some photos.
The Upper Lake of the two lakes.
Swimmer in the lake.
A V shaped bridge, a popular construct of the area we came to learn.
Remains of a church, “possibly” built in the 11th century according to the plaque.
The door is not lock.
Church interior.
Headstone and church exterior.
Lights on steps.
Trees interplay with lights and shadows.
Sometimes perspective helps.
More steps.
Texture of a rock.
Hillside tree stump cemetery.
A famous waterfall, but thanks to the recent draught, is now just this.
Took a photo of the wife taking a photo.
A tree.
Even more steps.
Another rock face.
The trail back to the parking lot is called the Miner’s way, with ruins of a miner’s village.
A tiny water cascade.
Semi-V bridge.
More ruins of the miners’ village.
Even more ruins.
Still on ruins.
It looks like everyone at the party just gets up and leaves.
Machinery.
The other side of whatever this is.
Rock and grass and tree etc
Leaning tree.
Oh, right, the lake.
The one in the far end is the Lower Lake.
And that’s it for today! Thank you for stopping by! Have a good weekend! Until next time!
Beautiful 😃
That looks like a great hike - I do like that tree stump cemetery!
