Infrared on Digital
I failed, and I kept failing.
After my first roll of Rollei Infrared 400 turned out a gigantic bummer, I moved to digital. I adapted my 35mm Summicron onto my 50R(I had already bought a bunch of filters for the Summicron.) I tried the setup on different subjects to see how it works. I discovered the IR filters I put on the lens gave photos a big halo in the centre of the frame. Lots of editing went into fixing just that. And since my 50R sensor isn’t an IR sensor, more editing again, went into giving photos the IR look. It’s not an ideal setup for sure, but the experiment part was what this was all about. Or at least that’s how I console myself after hiking all day with my gear and coming home to a bunch of blahs. I shot trees, cityscape, and even a few portraits. Here’s a few of them.
I found cityscape photos turned out better than those of greenery. Maybe I was doing something wrong. Need to investigate.

This is probably the best result from the bunch. The 50R’s resolution always surprises me. The damn Chinese navy warship though! Ugh!
This last photo was shot with a dark red filter, not an IR filter. I had a much easier time with this filter on the lens. But what is art without the suffering?
That’s it for today, I think.
