Park Stuff
Oh hi! I was working on my midnight ice cream and didn’t see you come in.
I had an interesting afternoon. After I dropped off my wife at her downtown office, I learned that for a second day today, farmers have been blockading the Dublin city centre with their tractors, etc to protest fuel price hikes since the stupid war started. Dublin, if you don’t already know, is among the most congested cities in the world, and throw in a fleet of heavy farming machinery, you get, you know, hell. I knew the trip back home would be a bad one. So I did some grocery shopping, had a quick coffee and jumped back into the car. The time was 3:45. I figured I had over 2 hours before I had to pick up the baby, I should be able to make it. And hell, I was naively optimistic. Before I got to my car, I even stopped on the road to ask a police about the road closures. He told me my regular route was closed at the moment, and pointed me to another route about 1.5 kilometres westward. That 1.5 kilometres took me half an hour, and it was also closed off. So I was stuck on the south bank of River Liffey, snailing along with the other half a million cars. At this point, it became clear I wasn’t gonna make my 6 o’clock pickup. I messaged my wife, and asked her to leave work early, hop on a train and then taxi to pick up Baby G. I made another round and all roads home were closed. I tried to drive away from the river. The traffic was so bad I barely moved 100 metres in 30 minutes. Finally, on the 3rd round, the roads were cleared, and it was 5:45. I’d been in the car for 2 hours, and I was about 300 metres from the parking garage where I started this hellish journey. The only silver lining was because of the road closures, many people had abandoned their cars and taken the trains home. That, coupled with cancelled bus services, made the outward bound traffic lighter than ever. And I got home, picking up the wife and the George on the way. It was hellish fun!
How was your day?
Oh, also, I am heading for Paris on Friday. Woohoo!
I am finally starting to take photos again. It is spring and the weather is better. It seems to be a good time to pick up a camera and shoot stuff. Here’s some park thingies.
Bench park.
Light on stump.
A house.
I posted this in a note, and I kinda like the house and the tree is quite a character, isn’t it?
I wouldn’t miss the forest for half a tree.
Trees and shadows.
Goal
Twiggy.
The woman and the tree.
Branching out.
The trio.
The playground.
I am not quite sure what the purpose of this fence is.
Tree and road.
Sometimes, Y?
Park ranger emerging from the shadow. It kinda looks Sci-fi-y to me.
And there it is. Thank you for visiting me. And I hope to see you soon. It’s a stupid world out there. Stay sane!

Hi Chen, great to see you're shooting again! I kind of missed your dark and contrasty B&Ws. But this park series makes up for it: the shiny modern bench, the wonderfully lit tree stump, the house and tree full of character, the tree silhouettes, and finally the sci-fi-like park ranger shot. The detour-story is a good frame to establish the photos as your personal getaway.
"Park ranger emerging from the shadow. It kinda looks Sci-fi-y to me."
All I can say in response to this is: "Klaatu barada nikto"!
Striking photos! Trees are so much more monochromatically photogenic when they're leafless, eh?
