The 2025 Clip Show.
Hello, everyone! I am checking in from Hong Kong.
Before I get to the photos, story time.
If you get around me people, a story I will tell,
About the MTR in Hong Kong, so come and ride along…
I’ve written about how to survive Hong Kong’s passive aggressiveness in public places. Here’s a new addition to the story.
I am sitting in the second seat of a row of six, leaving one empty seat to my left. A man comes onto to train and takes the seat. Immediately, I could feel his right elbow poking me in my left arm. Now, I have a fairly small frame weighing around 60KG, and I am very conscious of not causing inconvenience or discomfort to people around me. So I am only taking up 85 per cent of my own seat. I can’t think of any reason this man has to elbow me. And he elbows hard, without saying a word or register his discontent in any way. Just sticking his elbow right in my left arm. So much so I can feel hear his breathing like he’s deadlifting. This continues for around 10 minutes. I do not push back, but I hold my arm tight so that he doesn’t poke a hole in my rib cage. He keeps pushing. When I finally stand up at my stop, he falls sideways towards the void I leave over my former seat. His backpack falls off his lap onto the floor. To keep his balance, his right foot gets caught between the floor and the outsole of my left shoe. I am off the train before he could verbalise his anger. And that’s just another Sunday in Hong Kong. How was your weekend?
I joined Substack on 30 Dec 2024. I didn’t know how long it will last, or what I was gonna do with it. One year on, I have to say, it’s been a fun year. I’ve got to go through my catalogue and figure out what I’ve been doing with my cameras, and I’ve got to interact with you all. I’ve got to learn a lot about different stuff, and think about what I’d like to do in the coming days, months, etc. I’d like to thank all of you who’s read any of my rambling posts, seen my photos, liked, commented, etc. It means a lot to me, and I am not just saying it.
I don’t consider this an anniversary. Let’s leave it for something more important. But it’s the end of the year, so I go back and dig through all the photos I’ve taken in 2025, and choose a few of them that I am oddly proud of to make a year-end post. Let’s call it the 2025 Clip Show. This post does not include photos from my current Hong Kong trip. That will appear in future posts for sure.
