Summer Solstice
Hello, everyone!
I hope your week has been going better than the US World Cup squad and that Portuguese spectator who got to watch the match on the pitch.
So today I got a notice from the post office. My film negatives are coming back from Hong Kong, and the post office decided that I should pay import taxes, VAT, and administration fee to the post office. They gave the film a money value and I will have to pay whatever’s asked of me. That fucking makes sense, doesn’t it? The bureaucratic stupidity is a thing to behold.
I am not sure when it started, but I like shooting solstice lights, summer and winter. This year, I threw in a roll of Kodak UltraMax in my camera, and prepared to shoot whatever I saw that day. On my tiny breaks from child minding on a playground, I got to walk around the park shooting the lights I could find. I did not end up getting anything I like. But failure is part of life, right? So here we go. You are invited to witness my failed solstice.

I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss these. Some have something worth saving to make it better. The backlit leaves shot, for instance, could become a different image with a tighter crop and more contrast on the shadows. But beyond the edit, I’d be curious what you were actually trying to say about solstice light.
The space in the "Pocket of light" photo looks like a portal to another realm!
